The Chairman of the Committee Invites the President to Attend the International Sufi Congress in Pekalongan

Jakarta, JATMAN Online – The Chairman of the World Sufi Assembly (WSA), Habib Muhammad Luthfi Ali bin Yahya, and the Head of the WSA Central Committee, Prabowo Subianto, met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

This visit was aimed at conveying a report on the activities of the International Sufi Conference that will be held in Pekalongan, Central Java, from August 29 to 31, 2023.

"We have just returned from the palace, as the committee of the International Sufi Conference, or World Sufi Assembly, led by Habib Muhammad Luthfi Ali bin Yahya, along with our delegation and leadership. I had an honor of being asked to participate, as this also represents a collaboration with the Ministry of Defense for the past few years, which I have to continue," explained Prabowo in Jakarta on Tuesday (08/08).

Prabowo stated that he, along with Habib Luthfi and the committee members, reported to the President about the implementation of the International Sufi Conference, scheduled to take place from August 29 to 31, 2023, in Pekalongan, Central Java.

The event will be attended by Sufi scholars from 64 countries, who are members of the World Sufi Assembly.

"These include Sufi scholars, Muftis, and University Chancellors. Representatives are also attending from Egypt,

as well as representatives from Palestine. A Sheikh from Al-Azhar is also present, along with prominent scholars from within the country, university rectors, Islamic organizations, and leaders of Islamic boarding schools," he said.

He explained that the International Sufi Conference will address contemporary Sufi works in a dynamic world, focusing on four areas: Tasawuf education and its influence on soul purification, economics and sustainable development, media industry and public opinion, as well as the significant role of Sufism in building human character and advancing civilization.

"It has been reported to President Jokowi, and he has kindly agreed to inaugurate the International Sufi Conference on the upcoming August 29," he added.

According to him, during the occasion, the President emphasized the need for coordination and collaboration between the organizing committee of the International Sufi Conference and other ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, to ensure the smooth running of the event.
